At the age of 10, this Frenchman from Évreux in Normandy took his first seat in a kart and immediately proved his talent. He earned a number of merits at national and European level and took the logical step into formula racing in 2012: Ocon took part in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup in this year and the following year, and joined the development programme of the Renault-powered Genii Lotus Formula 1 team. In 2013, Ocon took third place in the championship.

This remarkable success gave the career of the Frenchman, who was only 17 at the time, an unexpected boost. in 2014, he won the European Formula 3 Championship title and competed in two rounds of Formula Renault 3.5. He also became a test driver for the Lotus Formula 1 team. Ocon was also able to exploit his potential in 2015 and won the GP3 Series drivers' title in superior style.

At the same time, he expanded his motorsport prospects with a contract as a test driver for Mercedes-AMG in the German Touring Car Masters. Nevertheless, his sights remained set on Formula 1, where he was under contract with Force India as a test and reserve driver for this season.

The Frenchman was busy in the 2016 season. He completed ten DTM races for ART Grand Prix in the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM and nine Grand Prix races for the Formula 1 team Manor Racing MRT, which competed with Mercedes-Benz engines. The difficult balancing act ended for Ocon with only two championship points in the DTM on the one hand, but on the other hand with placings just outside the points in Formula 1 towards the end of the season.

His solid performance in the premier class was rewarded with a permanent place in Team Force India for the 2017 season, which also used engines from Mercedes-Benz. Here he met a no less talented and spirited team-mate in Mexican Sergio Pérez. Throughout the season, the two drivers celebrated their fervent rivalry, with Ocon losing out to seventh-placed Pérez despite a very respectable eighth place in the drivers' standings.

In the 2018 Formula One World Championship, the Frenchman and his team-mate were suffering from the economic problems of the Force India team, which was taken over by an investor group around the middle of the season and now competed under a British licence under the name Racing Point Force India. In the end, Ocon dropped to twelfth place in the drivers' standings with 49 championship points and lost his cockpit for the following year, which he spent as a reserve, test and simulator driver for the Mercedes-AMG World Championship team.

In 2020, he had a permanent cockpit again, this time in the Renault DP World F1 Team, which has been operating as the Alpine F1 Team since 2021. In his first season, he once again finished 12th in the drivers' standings and fought his way up to a respectable eighth place in the 2022 world championship via 11th place.
