In 1995, this Chemnitz native made his debut in motorsport as the runner-up in the German Kart Championship and winner of the ADAC's Formula Junior School. Two years later, a ninth place in the Renault Spider European Cup followed. In 1999, Jäger finished third in the German Formula 3 Championship in the KMS Benetton Junior Team after three victories.

For the 2000 season, he got one of the coveted seats at Mercedes-Benz in the DTM. He drove a CLK-DTM in the D2 AMG-Mercedes team and achieved his best result of the season with a third place in the second round at the Nürburgring. The following year, he switched to Persson Motorsport and was able to finish the DTM season in seventh place in the final standings after three podium finishes.

In 2002, Jäger, driving a pre-owned car, failed to score any points. Still under contract with Persson Motorsport, he finished the 2003 season in 13th place overall in his CLK-DTM from the previous year. He then continued his career in brand trophies, touring car racing and, above all, GT racing.
