This native of Salzburg, who lives in Barcelona and is the son of three-time Formula 1 World Champion Niki Lauda, started motorsport in 2002 as a late-comer. His activity in Formula Nissan and individual starts in other junior classes remained inconspicuous. His entry into Formula 3000 in 2004 as well as into its successor category, the GP2 series, also ended with almost no countable successes in the bottom third of the overall standings in each case.

After the start in the short-lived A1GP series in the winter half-year 2005/2006 also remained unproductive, Lauda left formula racing and switched to the German Touring Car Masters in 2006, where he drove an AMG-Mercedes C-Class DTM at Persson Motorsport.

After a premiere season without points, he joined Mücke Motorsport in 2007 and scored four championship points in a C-Class DTM pre-owned car. The following year, Lauda returned to Persson Motorsport and, once again driving a pre-owned car, secured a point in the DTM drivers' championship.

The 2009 season brought exactly the same result for the Salzburg native, who has switched back to Mücke Motorsport. After the end of his DTM involvement, Lauda turned to the Porsche Supercup and made individual appearances in GT racing.
