    Daimler AG and the Japanese company Toray Industries, Inc., the world's largest manufacturer of carbon fibres, signed a joint venture agreement for the foundation of a company for the manufacture and marketing of car components made from carbon-fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP).
    The headquarters of the new company known as Euro Advanced Carbon Fiber Composites was to be in Esslingen.

Daimler and Toray to Establish Joint Venture for Manufacturing and Marketing of carbon-fiber based automobile parts: Targeted mass production of high-tech lightweight components significantly improves fuel economy and reduces CO2 emissions of cars. New production and joining process enables large-scale production.
