This Bavarian, born in Miesbach, was not a professional racing driver, but worked as a test and development engineer for Daimler-Benz from 1953. With his considerable driving qualities, which he repeatedly displayed at rallies and circuit events, especially until the mid-1960s, he stood in a proud tradition with the legendary Rudolf Uhlenhaut.

Waxenberger provided samples of his skills in 1957, for example, when he finished the 1000-kilometre race on the Nürburgring in a 300 SL in third place in his class, or in 1964, together with Klaus Kaiser, in fourth place at the Acropolis Rally in a 220 SE. A highlight of his active period was the victory in the 6-hour race of Macao in May 1969 in a 300 SEL 6.3 together with Albert Poon.

At that time, Waxenberger was involved in the preparation of various racing and rally events for his employer. In 1977, as head of the sports department, he took over the organisation of rallies in their entirety and celebrated remarkable successes, especially with the SLC Coupés in 1979 and 1980. From the end of his engineering studies until his retirement in 1996, Waxenberger worked for Mercedes-Benz for a total of 43 years. He died on 18 July 2017 at the age of 86.
