After spectacular rally performances with Volvo, Ursula Wirth, born in Sundsvall in central Sweden, was offered a contract with Mercedes-Benz as co-driver for Ewy Rosqvist in 1962. The duo contested the International Tulip Rally, the Poland Rally and the 1000 Lakes Rally in Finland with varying success in a 220 SE "Tail-Fin Saloon". But sixth place at the Rally Poland was only a foretaste of the sensational victory Rosqvist/Wirth achieved five months later at the Argentinian Touring Grand Prix, also in a 220 SE.

The following year, the popular team finished third in the same event, again with a 220 SE. At the beginning of the season, both had already clinched third place overall and the Coupe des Dames at the Monte-Carlo Rally. Alongside Pat Moss, sister of Stirling Moss, Ursula Wirth achieved another notable success in 1964 with Saab, taking fifth place overall in this most prestigious of all rally events. After her marriage, she hung up her racing overalls in 1965, but continued to work as a driving instructor for about 30 years.
