Between 1978 and 1988, the London-born Briton rose through the usual junior classes to the Formula 3000 European Championship, where he was, however, unable to impress. By this time, he had already gained a few years' experience in the Group C Sports Car World Championship and even finished second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1985 in a Porsche 956.

After the completely unsuccessful Formula 3000 adventure, the Briton essentially concentrated on this vehicle category from 1988 onwards and, in addition to numerous appearances in the American IMSA series, also competed twice in the Sauber-Mercedes C 9 together with the Italian Mauro Baldi in this season.

Weaver's track record at the wheel of the silver racing car was impressive: at the 1000 kilometre race in Silverstone, the duo Baldi/Weaver managed a third place, and in the 360-kilometre race in Brno they both finished in fourth position.

After this intermezzo, Weaver shifted his focus almost entirely to the USA from 1990 onwards, where he was involved in the IMSA series until 1995 and in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) from 1999 onwards. Weaver only returned to Europe for the endurance classic on the Sarthe, where he competed until 1999. At the end of the 2006 season, the Briton officially declared his active career over.
