At the beginning of his career, this Dutchman, who was born in Eindhoven, was racing in different motorsport worlds at the same time. In 1997, he competed in both karting, the Renault Mégane Masters and the Dutch and Belgian Formula Ford 1800. He secured the title in all the racing series he contested, which brought him into the German Formula 3 Championship the following season. Here, he finished his first season in fifth place and the following year with the championship title. By 2000, Albers was already competing in the International Formula 3000 Championship, where his impressive run of success came to an end, however.

For 2001, he got a place in the DTM team Persson Motorsport and drove an AMG-Mercedes CLK-DTM from the previous year. The Dutchman attracted attention with a second place at the Sachsenring. He finished 14th in the final standings with 19 championship points. The following year, he again drove a CLK-DTM pre-owned car for Team Rosberg and finished the season in 12th place in the drivers' rankings. In 2003 and 2004, Albers drove for HWA in a current CLK-DTM and a new AMG-Mercedes C-Class DTM respectively, and established himself among the top drivers in the DTM with a runner-up finish and third place in the drivers' standings.

The Dutchman's eternal longing for the top class of motorsport finally led him to Formula 1 from 2005 to 2007. Neither at the beginning with Minardi, nor in 2006 with Midland or in 2007 with Spyker could Albers finish in the points. In 2008, he returned to the DTM, but remained pointless in an Audi. In 2009 and 2010, the last two years of his racing career, he was involved in endurance racing, competing in the Le Mans Series in the LMP1 category in an Audi R10.
